Shaynna and Charlie sure didn't let the crazy wet weather put a damper on the first makeover of the Selling Houses Australia season. In a race against the clock, the team were able to transform the Logan's tired Waratah 60s throwback, into a modern masterpiece with a charming retro twist!
With a limited renovation budget, it was essential the team focus their time and funds on the areas of the home that would add the most value. With Shaynna leading the way, they decluttered the house, included much needed additional storage and opened up and revamped the kitchen.
The master bedroom was relocated to reclaim the largest room at the front of the house. The new queen-sized bed and built-in robes made it feel spacious, and the bold colour of the carpet at floor level created a base from which to build a more restrained colour palette at eye level, allowing the room to retain its personality, without overwhelming the space.
Shaynna enhanced the retro look of the home with original art, furniture and wallpaper choices, using print and colour to achieve what they couldn't do architecturally.
In an effort to improve the street appeal of the house, Charlie restored the entrance walkway and stairs, retiled the veranda landing and replaced the existing awning with a stylish new Luxaflex® System 2000 Pivot Arm shading solution. As the awning was mounted higher than ground level, the team opted for internal tape winch operation so that it could be extended or retracted easily from the inside.
The team swopped the original 60s kitchen window for a large bifold window. This helped to open up the space and create a connection from the indoors to the outside. Charlie replaced the original pergola with a large retractable umbrella, which was a great way to create the illusion of space and a longer roof line. Through clever placement of furniture, Charlie was able to create two separate seating zones and overall, one big entertaining area!
Prior to the renovation, the Logan's family home sat idle on the market for 9 months at a listing price of $580,000. After endless open houses and no offers, the family had nearly lost hope of selling their property which the family of 6 had so desperately outgrown.
Post makeover the house sold for $605,000, a week ahead of the scheduled auction date!
