Last November, when the team at Three Birds Renovations asked Sydney-siders to submit their ‘before’ homes for a facelift, they were completely overwhelmed by the response they received. After sorting through around 800 applications, the team chose this small but character-rich cottage in the historic town of Windsor, north west of the city.
This cute cottage is home to mums, Sarah and Cath, and their two sons, Chaise and Addison. While it had lots of potential, it was drab and tired, and was calling out for some attention from the Three Birds team.
In just eight weeks, the cottage was completely transformed into a stylish and contemporary haven. The back yard, previously home to a wobbly and rotten deck, overgrown foliage, and even a three-foot-tall plastic dinosaur, was turned into an entertainer’s ‘wonderland’ with new decking, separate ‘outdoor zones’, Besser-block screens and low-maintenance artificial turf.
The inside of the home also received head-to-toe makeover with stunning caramel tones, inviting textured surfaces, an over-sized kitchen, seamless indoor-outdoor flow, and of course, sophisticated window coverings throughout.
Importantly, the home was completely renovated just in time for it to be the perfect setting for Cath and Sarah’s wedding, which they celebrated in their incredible new back yard with their close friends and family.
The team at Luxaflex worked closely with the Three Birds Renovation trio from the outset, to help them select the perfect window coverings for this modern family.
The main bathroom is one of the most sophisticated rooms in the new cottage, and features textured wall and ceiling renders, curved divider walls, brushed gold tapware and a natural timber vanity.
A key feature of the room is the beautiful arch-shaped timber window above the bath. Through this window, one can see directly into the side passage of the home, so privacy was an important consideration. However, at the same time, the team wanted to maintain the view of the window itself.
An external Luxaflex® Evo Awning offered an ideal solution – as it sits outside the bathroom, yet has PowerView motorisation, which means it can be opened or closed with the touch of the button from inside.
With its striking clay and white colour palette, and interesting curved design elements, the cottage’s spacious master bedroom is an oasis in itself.
For a touch of added luxury in this room, the team chose three sets of Luxaflex® wand-operated curtains in Burton fabric, and with Translucent opacity. These curtains are used to cover two sets of floor to ceiling windows, as well as to ‘hide’ the entrance to the ensuite bathroom.
These beautiful curtains add all-important textural depth and dimension to the space. They also add sufficient privacy, yet still let enough light into the space for it to feel fresh and bright all year round. Plus, a hanging ‘wand’ at one end means they can be effortlessly opened or pulled closed.
The lounge area of this stunning home has the same colour palette as the master bedroom – with tan, white and dusky pink tones giving a feeling of calm and tranquillity.
In this room, Luxaflex® Pirouette® Shadings are used as a smart way of controlling light flow into the space, and also ensuring privacy. The shades feature softly curved, elegant horizontal fabric vanes which are attached to a sheer backing.
The delicate folds of these shadings appear to float above the window, which means light can either filter through, or they can be completely closed.
For ease of use, the Three Birds Renovations team chose the PowerView® Motorisation option, which means they can be easily opened or closed with the touch of a button. They also chose shadings in a 120mm vane, in Linen fabric, Translucent opacity and Chamomile colour.
Connecting the living area to the outdoor deck, the dining room is very much at the heart of this home. For this room, the team chose two options: Luxaflex®; Curtains, and Luxaflex® Pirouette® Shadings.
The curtains, similar to those in the main bedroom, can also be opened and closed via a ‘wand’ at the end, and are in Burton fabric, with Translucent opacity.
To ensure a consistent and seamless look throughout the home, the shadings in this room are identical to those used in the lounge room, and will enable the owners to let as much light into the space as they choose.
Chaise and Addison are lucky enough to have their own bedrooms – each of which have been designed to reflect their special interests and style.
In both bedrooms, the team chose Modern Roman Shades, which offer an intelligent cordless design for a clean aesthetic and enhanced safety. There are no exposed rear cords on these modern shades, making them ideal for children’s bedrooms. They also offer luxurious, soft fabric folds, which add a sense of texture and style to the rooms.
In both rooms, the team opted for PowerView® Motorisation so the shades could be effortlessly opened or closed. They also went for a rolling style 150mm vane, in Linen Weave fabric, with Room Darkening opacity (also ideal for young children) and in Marshland colour.
